I use what I call the “why, what, and how” method to connect with patients. I explain:
- Why do they have their issue?
- What can they do about it?
- How they can get better.
This approach builds trust and helps establish your authority. Over time, patients begin to see you as the go-to expert for their needs.
Talking About Common Patient Concerns
In my clinic, I work with many patients dealing with hand numbness or nerve-related symptoms. Often, they don’t know what’s causing their discomfort or how to address it.
For example, I’ll explain what carpal tunnel syndrome is, why they might have it, and the symptoms they should watch for. I also walk them through their options—from simple solutions like wearing a splint to more advanced treatments like therapy, injections, or surgery.
By breaking it down in this way, patients feel informed and empowered to make decisions about their care. It also shows them that I’m here to guide them through their journey.
How Education Builds Authority
The more you educate your patients, the more they’ll trust you. Even if they choose a different route initially, many will come back to you when they need more help.
Here’s an example: Some of my patients come in after surgery and worry about scarring. They might not realize how tightness or scarring can cause long-term problems if it isn’t addressed. I explain how scar massage or therapy can help prevent complications and improve their recovery.
When you share this kind of knowledge, you’re not just helping your patients; you’re showing them why you’re the right person to help them.
Reaching More People Through Video
One of my favorite ways to educate patients is through video. Platforms like YouTube and TikTok are great for reaching people in your community and beyond.
On YouTube, I create longer videos to dive into topics like hand therapy, nerve pain, and post-surgery care. On TikTok, I share quick tips and practical advice that’s easy to follow. Both platforms allow me to reach patients who might not have found me otherwise.
When patients in my area watch these videos, they’re more likely to come to my clinic because they already see me as an expert. Video content is a powerful way to connect with your audience and build trust.

Even small tips can make a big difference. For example, if you’re treating someone after a carpal tunnel surgery, you might teach them to use a splint or how to massage their scar tissue. These practical solutions help patients feel better and build trust in your expertise.
How to Get Started
If you’ve never created educational content before, don’t worry. Start small. Think about the questions your patients ask most often and create a simple video or blog post to answer them.
For example:
- Why do I have numbness in my hand?
- What’s the best way to reduce swelling after surgery?
- How can I regain motion in my fingers?
Practice being on camera if you’re using video. You don’t have to be perfect—patients care more about the value you provide than how polished your content is.
