About Hoang

How I went from a frustrated Occupational Therapist wondering if I had picked the right career path, to having an amazing career and running two companies that support occupational therapy in different ways.

Before becoming a business owner. Before becoming a Certified Hand Therapist…

I was that new Occupational Therapist graduate looking for a way to get a job in hand therapy because it was a goal of mine to become a Certified Hand Therapist. But I kept hearing the same thing…”we need someone with experience”. But how can I get experience without the job?

Not knowing it at the time, I decided to apply only to jobs that I knew would help me move closer and closer to my goal. Even if it meant driving really far for not the best jobs, or taking less money because the opportunities would be greater in certain settings.

Wine, food, fun, and a thousand little mistakes...

It wasn’t always easy…but it’s been worth every bump, set back, and moment of self doubt.

I didn’t have it easy getting into hand therapy. But if I can do it, I know you can do it too.

While it was easier to stay in a comfortable position at a well known hospital with great friends; I knew that if I wanted to grow and achieve even a few more of my dreams, I needed to leave and forge a different path.

I went to work in a private practice. That’s when I knew. I needed to start my own private clinic, doing what I love doing as an occupational therapist and a certified hand therapist. It was the only way I was going to be able to have a fun and fulfilling career where I feel like I can help people forever.

That’s when I jumped feet first and opened Hands-on Therapy Services which eventually led me to develop Hand Therapy Secrets.

The first few years were rough.

It wasn’t like I opened my clinic doors and there was a line of patients waiting to be treated by me JUST because I was a Certified Hand Therapist.

It wasn’t like every hand surgeon would send me patients because they just loved the results that I got their patients.

Long hours trying to develop more skills – from therapy to business skills.

Days wondering if I had made a mistake with endless amounts of self doubt.

Nights worrying that I am doing a disservice to my family and kids who were supposed to have more time with me.

But when the patients did start coming in, and the phone was ringing off the hook…who was going to help me?

The final straw was when I was trying to go on vacation and I had no occupational therapist who could step in with the skills that I needed. When I had no certified hand therapist with the confidence to treat complex cases…

I needed to take a stand.

I remembered that in order to build the kind of business I wanted, I needed to find dedicated OT’s who wanted what I had wanted in those early years.

Their success would be my success. So I doubled down and developed my business skills so that I could:

And after all that…

I learned how to stay focused and optimize myself so that I had time to grow my clinic, develop programs to help Occupational Therapists beyond my town, and still have time to spend with my kids.

Best of all...

I get the honor of talking to and coaching Occupational Therapists from around the world, help them achieve their goals in hand therapy, and even become a Certified Hand Therapist.

How?

Consistent actionable steps.

Over the years, I’ve developed a reputation of being able to “chunk the information down into bite size pieces” that are easy to understand and apply.

It’s like cliff notes for hand therapy…

I actually teach you in a way that makes it easy to understand, intuitive to apply, and with the frameworks that can help you apply your skills over and over again – without all the fancy jargon in a stiff and boring environment.

I’ve shown Occupational Therapists not only the “how to’s”, but more importantly the “why to’s” so that they can over time become the confident critical thinker, problem solver, and decision maker.

I teach you as if you are working in my clinic.

I have hundreds, if not thousands, of hours training occupational therapists not only in my clinic but OT’s from around the world – develop their skills in all areas of hand and upper extremity therapy so they will feel more confident in themselves for the treatments that they provide their patients.
