Shoulder Assessments | Observations, Movements Patterns During Active Motion
How to assess & observe shoulders in occupational and physical therapy.
Are you starting to develop your skills as an Occupational Therapist in upper extremity management?
Watch this video and see what you can observe. One of the best things you can do to develop your skills in treating shoulders is to observe what structures and movement patterns are NOT normal.
And it's normal or not normal to that person and as compared to their other arm.
The 2nd best thing after developing your keen observation skills is to then understand what is wrong and where.
Providing treatment without those two skills is like taking a crap shoot to see what might work. In hand therapy, there is a lot of testing and retesting to find out what works best for a patient – but you have to have an understanding of the root cause of the problem in order to know what to do AND know what to say.
Believe me when I tell you, your patients are on YouTube looking and wondering what is wrong with their shoulder and why they have pain.
What will you do and say as the Occupational Therapist – to be able to help them achieve their goals?
When we help others achieve their goals – we can achieve our goals, and that is to become an expert in our area.
If you are looking for someone to to help you develop your skills in hand and upper extremity treatment – start with my Hand Therapy Mentorship program.
